Summary

Companion p.7 piece to the p.5 "MURPHY RITES HELD" article in the same Aug 27 1935 issue. Repeats the funeral logistics and pallbearer list and ADDS the substantial list of honorary pallbearers — almost all of whom are Butte AOH / Sacred Heart parish figures of the Hennessy-and-Hennessy-orbit social world. This honorary-pallbearer list is the substantive value of the clipping for the archive: it documents Mrs. Ellen Murphy's embeddedness in the Butte Irish-American organisational network c. 1935. Honorary pallbearers (in addition to those announced the previous Thursday — i.e. the Aug 22 1935 Montana Standard): Martin Kall, Steve Seman, Eddie Gallivan, Judge E. G. Lamb, Eddy O'Connell, Harry Thompson, Jim Maguire, Tom McGrath, John Patton, Dan O'Connor, T. J. O'Connor, Pete O'Connor, John Jarowaski, Chester De Mooney, Joe Oremovich, Pete Gapsick, M. Makovi, Mike Primarich, Joe Primarich, Dan Rasetta, Frank Boucher, Jerry Sullivan, Gene Sullivan, Otto Heigh, Fred Buckmaster, Joe Tobin, Philip Jovetich, Jere Clifford. Active pallbearers (repeated): Judge J. J. Lynch, Lou Wilson, James M. Brown, Phil Sullivan, Frank J. Feeney, John P. Hogan.

Open questions

  • The phrase "those announced last Thursday" implies a previous honorary-pallbearer announcement in the Montana Standard of Aug 22 or 23 1935 (the previous Thursday or Friday). Not in the current ingestion. Worth chasing.
