Seamus Mór (Big James) Murphy — PJM's father, of Ballycrovane Beara

Also known as: Seamus Mor Murphy, Big James Murphy

family confidence: 50 — candidate (user review)

Per Oliver Murphy's 2026-05-11 email genealogy: son of Crohur (Cornelius) Murphy + Catherine Power. Married Peig Uonhi (Harrington) of Point Ranna, Fay, Eyeries. USER'S GREAT-GREAT-GRANDFATHER (= PJM's father, JJM's grandfather). 6 documented children: John, James (Jim) [= Oliver's grandfather], Mary, Catherine (Kate), Michael, Patrick (Paddy = PJM). DIVERGES FROM the existing archive's Tady-tree hypothesis (which proposed person_timothy_tady_murphy_1825 as PJM's father per the 1992 Donald V. Murphy letter). Two competing parental theories for PJM: (a) **Seamus Mor framework** — Oliver Murphy's 2026 email, confirmed via Ancestry DNA + family contact 2025 (b) **Tady framework** — 1992 Donald V. Murphy letter (held at fc 50 in [[clounaglaskin-ancestral-root]]) Both converge at Clounaglaskin/Eyeries one generation up. Oliver's DNA-corroborated framework has higher provisional weight. Birth and death dates not specified in Oliver's email — need a follow-up for vital data.

Family notes (private; from people.yaml)

**REVISED 2026-05-28 PM** (after the April 2026 Patrick Murphy Briefing read in full): Seamus Mor + Peig Uonhi is the **Hypothesis B** candidate parental pair for our Pat, NOT a resolved family link. The competing Hypothesis A (1858 Gort baptism, Joseph Murphy + Margaret Crounhane) has stronger age-evidence support. Per the briefing's honest current read: "Neither hypothesis is closed. The age evidence genuinely favors 1858. The sibling evidence genuinely favors the Seamus Mor family." Open problems on the Seamus Mor framework: - O'Dwyer p. 270 lists only 6 children of Seamus Mor + Peig Uonhi (Mary 1846, Paddy 1850, John, Jim, Kate, Michael 1864) — none born ~1858. Hyp B requires either (i) Pat = the 1850 Paddy with 8 yrs of age-misreporting, or (ii) a "two-Patricks" variant where the 1850 Paddy died young and a second Patrick was born ~1858 to the same couple. - Pat's sister Miss Margaret Murphy (b. ~1867-70 per US records) doesn't appear in O'Dwyer's child-list — would need to be a half-sister from a hypothetical second marriage by James/Seamus Mor. - O'Dwyer p. 270's "Paddy → Rosmacowen, married Margaret Murphy Cuardonoghue" must be wrong or describe a different Paddy. - O'Dwyer p. 271 names our Pat's parents as "James Murphy and Mary O'Leary, Eyeries Village" — different mother's first name from "Peig Uonhi (Harrington)." Hyp B asks us to treat Mary O'Leary as an oral-tradition slip for Margaret Harrington (Mary ↔ Margaret confusion). Oliver Murphy's 2026-05-11 email genealogy + Ancestry DNA-confirmed connection to the user is real but does not fix the parental link — Oliver and the user could be cousins via Seamus Mor's ACTUAL Paddy (1850, Rosmacowen) or via an even-older common Murphy ancestor in Beara, independent of whether Seamus Mor was OUR Pat's father.
