Summary
Butte City Directory Murphy-surname column. The bold primary entry is: **MURPHY JAS J** — Mngr Hennessy's Centerville [Branch], r 423 N Jackson This is **the user's JJM** (person_james_murphy_son_of_pat_and_ellen), identified with certainty: both the *role* (manager of Hennessy's Centerville branch, which he held 1915–1920) and the *address* (423 N Jackson) match independent records — JJM's 1918 WW1 draft registration gives his home as 423 N. Jackson, and a JJM child was born at 423 N Jackson on 7 Sep 1917. The address therefore both confirms identity and dates the directory to c.1917–1918. The same column lists many other (common-name) Butte Murphys, none promoted here: - MURPHY J EDW — Auditor, Davis-Daly Copper Co, The Napton - MURPHY JACK — Timekpr, Mt Con Mine - Murphy Jas M, slsman Jones Fr[uit], r 224 W Alum (a DIFFERENT James — salesman; the original filename's "store mgr" appears to be a mislabel; the store/branch manager is JAS J, not JAS M) - Murphy Jas N, meat ctr, Swift & [Co], 209 Dakota - numerous "Murphy Jas" miners / carpenters / truckers (Anaconda, Original, Mt Con, Stewart, N S mines; Centerville, Florence Hotel, Clarence Hotel, etc.) - Murphy J T, comp eng, Blk Rk [Mine], Lenox blk

- Exact directory year (1917 vs 1918). The captured pages carry no printed year header; the 423 N Jackson + Hennessy's-Centerville combination fixes it to 1917-1918. A title-page capture would settle it.
