Miss Mary Kelly Dies in California
The Montana Standard, Butte, 1954-10-28, p.2
Summary
Obituary for Miss Mary "Mayme" Kelly — former Butte and Walkerville resident — who died suddenly Wednesday afternoon (27 Oct 1954) at her home in Los Angeles. Heart attack. Native of Walkerville (the small mining town immediately north of Butte); attended local schools; employed several years at the old Symons Store (Butte department store). Left Butte "a number of years ago" for California; visited Butte often. Unmarried ("Miss"). Body at Cunningham and O'Connor Undertaking Parlors, 800 Washington Ave., South, Los Angeles. SURVIVORS: - Brother-in-law and two sisters: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hauser (Irene Kelly Hauser); and Mrs. J. J. Murphy — all of Los Angeles - Brother and sister-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kelly of Arcadia, California - Aunt: Mrs. W. J. Pascoe of Butte - Several cousins in Butte; several nephews and nieces in California CONSOLIDATION WITH OTHER KELLY-MURPHY CLIPPINGS. Mary "Mayme" Kelly is one of the Kelly siblings already named in the 1926 Imelda Kelly Krueger obit (the others being Mrs. James Murphy [= Mrs. J. J. Murphy in this 1954 obit], Irene Kelly [now Mrs. Fred Hauser], and Walter Kelly). Imelda predeceased (Nov 10 1926). The four-sibling Kelly group (Imelda, Irene, Mary, Walter) plus Mrs. James J. Murphy as a fifth sister ties together the LA-Murphy and the Butte-Walkerville-Kelly families. WALKERVILLE-KELLY origin is consistent with the user's Walkerville Kelly clippings elsewhere in this archive — the 1908 Wedding Bells noted Agnes Kelly of Walkerville as daughter of John Kelly. Whether the John Kelly family of 1908 Walkerville and the Mary Kelly family of 1954 Walkerville- origins are the same lineage is an open question (per user direction 2026-05-26, lineage speculation deferred to the docs/speculative-lineage/ folder).

Open questions
- Symons Store — same Butte department store referenced as "Symons" elsewhere in the period archive. The Kelly sisters' employment trajectory bridged the Butte / LA migration.
- Mrs. W. J. Pascoe of Butte (aunt) — the Pascoe family in Butte connects to the Kelly clan as the older Butte branch. Worth a place note if Pascoe recurs.
