Summary

Anaconda's St. Patrick's Day 1922 celebration at the **Anaconda AOH hall** — "in song, story and speech the Anaconda branch of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and their friends last night observed the anniversary of St. Patrick." The hall was filled. - **Chairman T. J. Kelly** delivered the address of welcome - Principal speech by **Rev. Father Thomas P. Phelan of St. Ann's hospital**, on "the tenacity of the Irish in clinging to the faith of St. Patrick and the difficulty of the race in maintaining their educational institutions" — referencing the loss of churches/schools and a "three-quarters" tithe of [Irish institutional life] - Audience: Anaconda AOH membership and Irish-American friends Documents that the **Anaconda branch** of the AOH was running parallel St-Patrick's-Day exercises to the Butte branch in the early 1920s — useful context for the broader Silver Bow / Deer Lodge AOH circuit. The 1922 Butte St. Patrick's celebration (already in the archive, "1922-03-17_anaconda-standard_st-pats- banquet-attendee-birthplaces") is a separate clipping covering the BUTTE banquet on the same day.

Also mentioned

  • T. J. Kelly · chairman_address_of_welcome

Chairman of the Anaconda AOH St. Patrick's evening 1922. NOT (presumably) the same T. J. Kelly recurring in the Walkerville/Butte Kelly cluster; surname-and-initial coincidence — Kelly is too common to link without more.

  • Rev. Father Thomas P. Phelan · principal_speaker

Of St. Ann's hospital, [Anaconda or Butte]. Catholic priest.
