BOND CAMPAIGN FOR THE IRISH REPUBLIC / Captains in All Parts of City Aid Movement; Satisfactory Sales.
The Butte Miner, Butte, 1920-03-04, p.8
Dateline: Anaconda Bureau.
Summary
Update on the Irish bond drive, six weeks into the campaign (drive opened Feb 12 1920, runs to St. Patrick's Day). This is the ANACONDA side of the drive — the Butte Miner's Anaconda Bureau column. Bonds selling more rapidly than anticipated per F. M. Davidson (assistant secretary of the Anaconda branch of the American Commission on Irish Independence). James Murphy is secretary of the Anaconda branch. Two-day sales (Tuesday and Wednesday March 2-3 1920) totaled $1,422.50 (including voluntary pre-drive purchases continuing through Wednesday noon when the official drive opened in Anaconda). Davidson quoted: "From all indications the drive will be even more successful than we had dared hope. No drive has ever been more willingly subscribed to." ANACONDA-SIDE NOTE. James Murphy as secretary of the Anaconda branch is likely DISTINCT from JJM-Centerville-AOH (= person_ james_j_murphy_centerville_aoh), who was named to the SILVER BOW COUNTY committee in the Jan 1920 organising piece (not the Anaconda branch). Anaconda is 25 miles west of Butte and its Irish-American organisations were separate. Two-records rule applies until evidence consolidates.

- The Anaconda James Murphy (secretary of the Anaconda branch of the American Commission on Irish Independence) is most likely a different person from JJM-Centerville-AOH (Silver Bow County committee). Anaconda's Irish-American leadership was the Phil Sheridan Club + AOH there; the secretary almost certainly came from those Anaconda ranks. Worth a cross-check against Anaconda directory entries.
