MONTANA STANDARD, BUTTE, TUESDAY MORNING, APRIL 4, 1944 ## Column 1 # Margaret Ruddy Taken by Death ## Long Illness Is Fatal to Woman Mrs. Margaret Ruddy, 80, a native of County Mayo, Ireland, and a resident of Butte for 45 years, died Monday morning following a long illness. She lived at 1909 West Platinum. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mary Kiely of Butte; a son, Joseph Ruddy of Tacoma, Wash.; grandchildren, W. J. Kiely, Mrs. Beverly Byrnes, Mary Agnes Kiely, Maurice J. Ruddy and James F. Kiely, all of Butte, and several great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and cousins. The body is at the Duggan-Merrill chapel, from where the funeral will be conducted at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, proceeding to the church of the Immaculate Conception from which high mass will be delivered at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Patrick cemetery. ### JOHN TRINKA John Trinka, 62, a resident of Butte only three years, died here Sunday after a brief illness. Prior to coming to Butte, he was a farmer near Dickinson, N. D. He was born in Russia. Surviving are his sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Godevsky and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Godevsky, daughters-in-law and two daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Godevsky; daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Trinka, all of Manning, N. D.; also brothers, John Trinka and Anton Trinka in Italy. Also surviving are brothers and sisters: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Benticek of Butte, Mrs. Anton Privatsky and Mr. and Mrs. John Privatsky, all of Manning, N. D.; Mrs. Mary Ulasil, in Canada; four brothers-in-law, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Frank Trinka in Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. A. Trinka in Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Trinka, Mr. and Mrs. Trinka in Jolly, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Trinka, Manning, N. D., and several other relatives. The body is at the Duggan-Merrill chapel. It will be forwarded to Dickinson Tuesday evening for funeral services and burial. ### LEWIS WILSON Lewis Wilson, a native of St. Paul, Minn., but a resident of Butte for the past four years, died here Sunday at the family home, 825 West Silver. He was the father of Joseph L. Wilson, Butte salesman of sheet metal. He was his wife; Mrs. Charles Wilson of Butte, a son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Wilson of Butte, a son and a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Murphy of Butte; Mrs. Fred Toner, DeKay in Los Angeles, and a sister, Mrs. William Carr of Helena, Mont. The body is at the White chapel, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning by the Rev. Mr. A. C. Caton. Burial will be in Butte. ### LUDGER MICHAUD Funeral services for Ludger F. Michaud were conducted with a requiem high mass at St. Ann's church Monday morning. Interment was in the family plot in Holy Cross cemetery. The Rev. Father James Ryan was celebrant of the mass and the Rev. Father M. J. Leonard offered the final prayers at the graveside. Responders to the mass were sung by the choir. A large congregation attended. Pallbearers were James White, James Casey, Patrick Fogarty, Hank Augustine, Charles Fogarty and Gabe Jacnar. ### BERTHA HOFFMAN Last rites for Mrs. Bertha Hoffman were conducted at the White chapel Monday afternoon with the Rev. Ralph Harris officiating. Interment was in Mountain View cemetery. During the services Mrs. T. P. McGowan sang, and Mrs. Ralph Harris, sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Abide With Me." Pallbearers were Frank Panzler, Dan McCormick, Joseph Bartholomausch, Carl Meyers and Howard Parks. ### PETER STEFANOFF The funeral of Peter Stefanoff was conducted at the Sherman and Reed chapel Monday morning. Interment was in Mountain View cemetery. The Butte graduates are Patrick Emmett Lyons, husband of Mrs. Dora Helen Lyons of 116 North Jackson, and Frederick Clayton Freeman, Jr., son Margaret Landon of 113 South Wyoming. Both men were promoted on the basis of their recruit training certificate test scores. Aviation Cadet Guy MacArthur, son of Mrs. A. MacArthur of 21 South Dakota, has been transferred to Avon Park, Fla., Army Air field school to continue training for duty as a pilot. He recently completed the course at Avon Park, Fla. Cadet MacArthur was a parachutist; will be transferred to the air forces for flight instruction. Aviation Cadet John R. Honeychurch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Honeychurch of 1146 West Spencer, has been transferred to the Enid, Okla., Army air field for final training as a bombardier. Upon completion of the course, he will receive his pilot wings and appointment as a second lieutenant in the Army Air corps. Promotion of Frank M. Antonioni to the grade of technician, fifth grade, has been announced by the finance training center at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind. The Butte soldier is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Antonioni, 824 South Washington street. Corporal Technical Wesley Johnson of Anaconda, who is serving in the Army Signal corps, is visiting with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Foy, 2308 Prospect, of 2308 Colorado, while on his way to Parragut, Idaho for duty. Mike is a brother-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pringle of Anaconda. He left Anaconda for 19 months, entered the service March 24, 1941. He has been overseas for the past year and a half. Ward A. Fanning, Jr., a seaman, second class, in the Navy, now is spending a brief leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ward A. Fanning of 2028 Floral boulevard, following completion of recruit training at Farragut, Idaho. He will return to Farragut at the end of the leave. Seaman Fanning is a graduate of Butte high school where he was an outstanding member of the ski team. His father served a year with the Navy in the First World War. ## Board No. 1 Draft Group Examined A contingent of registrants from Silver Bow county selective service Board No. 1 reported at Fort George Wright Monday morning for preinduction physical examination. Names of men provisionally accepted from the board for service with the armed forces are not released. When called for service those who successfully passed the pre-induction examination will be dispatched for induction and cannot without further physical check-ups. Selective service regulations prohibit the publishing of names of men ordered for pre-induction of those definitely accepted for service. Names may be listed only of men ordered for enlistment. ## Radio Operator Exams Set Radio operator examinations will be given in Butte for commercial and amateur licenses April 10 and 13, according to an announcement from the Federal Communications offices, engineering department of the Federal Communications Commission. The commercial examinations are scheduled for 9 o'clock April 13, and amateur for 9 o'clock April 10. The four examinations will be at a time. The following must: applicants are asked to obtain all necessary forms from the Seattle office and complete them before appearing for examination. They may be secured from Charles O. Thompson, 808 Federal Office Building. Blanks for all the forms, however, may be obtained from the commission office in Seattle. ### DILLON BOY JOINS NAVY— William Henry Wagner, Jr., of Dillon, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Wagner of that city, is reported here Monday. The 17-year-old youth has left Dillon for the Naval Air Training station, Parragut, Idaho. --- ## Column 3 # Petition Filed in Estate ## Other Matters Are Recorded Irene Wolf petitioned for letters of administration in the estate of Mary Wolf, with the clerk of the district court. The estate is valued at does not exceed $1,500 in value. In the matter of the estate of Sullivan, administrators will will consisted of the estate of Margaret M. Sullivan, and others against the Maryland Casualty company and others, the presiding judge, Lyman C. Bennett, signed an order dis-missing the action as to the defendant, A. J. Knieval as administrator of the estate of Jane J. Higgins. Judge Bibby Hanley filed a petition for probate of the will of Thomas Trevillick. The estate is valued at approximately $9,900. Judge Hanley set the hearing for 10 o'clock Saturday, April 29. According to the jail docket, filed Monday afternoon by attorneys, with the clerk of the district court, attorneys for James Haass and others doing business as the Star store, located at 225 South Main street. The case is scheduled for hearing Friday following closing arguments at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. In his complaint Mr. Pelor al-leges that the defendants falsely de-tained him and accused him of stealing a bookkeeper. Susan R. Bibbery filed a notice of lis pendens, in a suit to determine distance arising against the Butte Mercury mining company and the Anaconda Copper Mining company. --- ## Column 3 (continued) # Red Cross Board to Meet Today A meeting of the board of directors of the Butte chapter of the American Red Cross will be held Tuesday morning at the chapter rooms, 60 East Broadway. The meeting will open at 11 o'clock. Beginning the Tuesday meeting, when the chapter exceeds its quota, when the final day will be made. Current business of the chapter also will be transacted. --- ## Column 4 # County Property Is Insured ## Policy Pro-rated Among Agents The bid of the Butte Association of Insurance Agents to insure county of commissioner's property, valued at $798,158, for a premium of $4,714, was accepted Monday morning by the county board of commissioners. The policy becomes effective Tuesday and will extend over a three-year period. Acceptance of the association's bid was voted by Chairman Dan D. Sulli-van and Commissioners Emmett P. O'Brien and Joe F. O'Donnell. The policy covers the county courthouse, jail and other property for fire and extended damage. The policy includes all forms of damage with the exception of earthquake. The Sullivan County Policy earthquake coverage is not extended in any city in which an earthquake has at any time occurred. Officers of the Butte Association of Insurance Agents include some 32 agencies and many companies represented among them. Officers of the association are C. H. Shannon, president; M. V. Evans, vice president; and P. B. Williger, secretary-treasurer.
