Consultation free. ## Column 2 # SAFETY FIRST IS TO BE SUBJECT OF SERMONS ### Throughout Montana Ministers Will Talk to Their Congregations of This Important Movement. The "Safety First" movement is to be recognized by the churches and throughout Montana tomorrow will be observed by the religious bodies as "Safety First" Sunday, following a request sent out from Great Falls by officials of the Butte & Montana Reduction works. In Butte all evangelical churches affiliated with the revival services will take up the subject. Rev. Rambo and Evangelist Bunjo will include a "Safety First" message in their address, while on the following Sunday the Butte ministers will severally include the subject in talks to their congregations. The originator of the movement, J. L. Price, who is passing through the northwest at this period, is addressing an audience: *"No Poverty for Accidents."* "For the past few years you have heard a great deal advocated by men Keapt to those who have been active in connection with the work, that depression until very recently has had no name—it was not recognized even so much it became very soon allowed it belongs to preventable economic loss. "In brief, 'Safety First' means nothing less than the conservation of human life and limb. It means less widows and less orphans, less hospitals, less epileptics and less human wastage. It means a lesser burden upon charity, and incidentally it saves money. *"Important Statistics."* "There were killed on the railroads alone, last year 92,000 human lives. There were maimed through railroad accidents due to falls 16,792 were drowned and 4,800 were killed by street car accidents, or, in other words, 140,212 human lives were lost. If these figures are not appalling and these terrific numbers don't cry out with a human voice demanding 'what can we be done,' then there is nothing more to be said. "Perhaps the railroads prevent only the fatal accidents, but what about the large number of men and women who have been permanently disabled? What is the awful burden of the permanently disabled, of those who are partially disabled? From the reports of the railroad and federal government it can be seen that 40 per cent of these accidents could be prevented. I leave it to you gentlemen—I am not a mathematical expert—what would be the result if such a thing were accomplished. "Montana has the highest mortality rate of any state in the Union, 26 fatalities per 1,000 population for the year 1914, 26.4 per 100,000 population for the year is so very forcibly the fact that it is time to wake up and do something." --- ### CHRISTIAN SCIENTISTS TO MEET IN WOMAN'S CLUB Starting with Sunday, April 23, the First Church of Christ Scientist, will hold its regular services in the Woman's Club at the corner of Montana street and Clark avenue. According to the annual report of city-county health officer, it had not been for the unusual epidemic of measles which has been raging in Butte during the past 12 months, the city would have got through the 12 months ending March 31 with comparatively few contagious diseases. Owing to the epidemic, the number of cases of the dread scarlet fever was kept to a minimum, but 11 cases were reported during the year. Typhoid fever has likewise been kept well in hand. Otherwise, cases of the contagious diseases have been greatly cut down in numbers. Mail Orders Solicited ## Column 4 # BOND OWNERS ASK LEAVE TO INTERVENE ### Investors in Butte-Duluth Loan Want Right to Purchase Property in Entirely. Permission to intervene was asked yesterday in behalf of the holders and owners of Butte-Duluth Mining company bonds, in the suit of the Providence security company against the Butte-Duluth company, which is now in the hands of Receiver Charles W. Melchore. The petition of intervention was filed in district court by Attorneys W. A. Sanders and H. E. Thompson, representing I. A. Hellshouser and others. Attached to the motion is a complaint in intervention setting forth in full the claim of both plaintiff and defendant in the suit brought by the security company, and the complaint sets forth that the bond holders should be declared a prior lien and superior to the claims of the defendants, and recently obtained a court's order directing a sale of the personal property of the Butte-Duluth Mining company to satisfy a claim of $315.13 in wages. The right of the intervener is based, according to the complaint, on a mortgage given to the State Savings bank of Butte as trustee. According to the terms of this mortgage, a deed in trust was given to the Butte-Duluth Mining company, also property subsequently acquired, and all revenues, mining claims, profit and property, whether real or personal, were also covered to the State Savings bank as a guarantee for the bond issue of $100,000. *Other Argument.* The interveners argue that the bond holders' claim is superior to all others, and superior even to the claim allowed by Receiver Everett in the sum of $315.13. In this regard the complaint requests: That all of the alleged creditors of said mining company be adjudged to be inferior and secondary to that of said property described in said deed of trust, and that the right acquired property, superior to the lien of the owner's claims in this action aforesaid, but that all of the alleged claims and encumbrances therein be adjudged and decreed to be inferior and secondary to the claims of the holders and owners of the bonds aforesaid. In brief, the complaint asks for judgment in full on the amount of the bond issue with the amount of unpaid interest thereon, and the right of the bond holders or their representatives to purchase the property in its entirety at the sheriff's sale, to credit bonds on the purchase price; that no other creditor shall have any right to satisfy any other claims and that the lien of the petitioner be declared superior to all other liens. In conclusion, the intervenors ask that in the event their claim be decreed to be security they would assume the indebtedness and pay the legal costs of the sale. --- # TEAMS AGAIN TO DEMONSTRATE FIRST AID ### Representatives of the Different Mines of the Anaconda Company Will Meet at Auditorium. The series of first-aid contests in the local league will be resumed this evening, when the various eight-man teams from the different mines of the corporation will be rated for other purposes. The principal contests will be held this evening. Fourteen teams are competing and these will take art tonight: Badger vs. Tramway, and Anaconda vs. Bell. Anaconda will be in the first contests and will be succeeded by a continued contest of contests: Badger vs. Tramway, with the first contest between each Anaconda vs. Bell. *J. L. Boardman has Returned.* J. L. Boardman has returned to Butte. He states recently with the United States bureau of mines traveling over all the mining regions, at some time, when he gained instructions in safety work and first-aid teams. "I am very glad to be back in Butte again," said Boardman. "My great interest in the local teams on my former visits was pronounced. I am anxious and am willing, to learn. In fact, during all my last tour of mine examination and safety work, Butte has been brought to such a high pitch of interest in mine safety work through encouragement of the A. C. M. company, that I was pleased to find out on my arrival that a league has been organized here. It will be a very healthy competition for the entire mine, for the members of the various local teams can do their best work in keeping back, shooting pains, stiff joints. In fact, all tests have been run safety-first and first-aid is one word. A good first-aid training will help mines generally.
