Summary

Obituary for Mrs. Johanna Murphy, wife of the late Dennis J. Murphy (whose 1916-10-19 Butte Miner obit is also in this archive). Born in Michigan 43 years ago (i.e. ~1873-74). Past 35 years a resident of Butte (came c. 1882). Died yesterday morning (Thursday 1 March 1917) following an operation at a local hospital. Survivors: two sons Jerry and Dennis; three daughters Misses Josie, Margaret, and Regina Murphy; her mother Mrs. Pat Lynch; a brother James Lynch; three sisters Mrs. Pat O'Neill, Mrs. Pat Healy, and Mrs. John Hawkins; two grandchildren Marie and Eleanor Murphy. Funeral at the family residence 920 North Henry street Monday morning. Daniels & Bilboa undertaking establishment in charge. Pairs with the 1916-10-19 Dennis J. Murphy obit (920 North Henry st., died 18 Oct 1916, age 51, native of Ireland, miner, five children Jerry, Josie, Margaret, Dennis, Regina — exactly matching). Dennis and Johanna were both gone within five months of each other; the five children, now orphaned, are named in both obits with two grandchildren added here. Johanna née Lynch — five Lynch / Lynch-married siblings noted: brother James Lynch, sisters Mrs. Pat O'Neill, Mrs. Pat Healy, Mrs. John Hawkins; mother Mrs. Pat Lynch (i.e. Pat Lynch's wife is still living and is Johanna's mother, so Johanna's father was a Pat Lynch — the Lynch family is the maternal line). Michigan origin distinguishes Johanna's family from any Beara / West Cork connection.

People

  • Dennis J. Murphy (Butte, 1892)(as printed: Dennis J. Murphy)
role: predeceased husband · family confidence: 25 candidate

Confirmation that the 1916-10-19 Dennis J. Murphy of 920 N. Henry st. is the same Dennis to whom Johanna (Lynch) was married. Adds Johanna née Lynch / Michigan origin to the household profile. Family_confidence held — distinct from the 1892 Cork-marriage Dennis (different family circumstances).

Open questions

  • Johanna Lynch — Michigan origin, c. 1874 birth. Her family is documented above but is distinct from the Beara / West Cork thread the rest of the archive tracks. Her parents' immigration pattern (Michigan-born Johanna implies her Lynch parents emigrated from Ireland to Michigan first, then possibly westward) is a separate Irish-American migration sub-pattern.
  • Need to add `place_michigan` to vocab if not already there.
