William Pascoe / W. J. Pascoe (Butte)

Also known as: W. J. Pascoe, William Pascoe

family confidence: 25 — candidate (user review)

Butte resident; husband of a Chatham sister of Mary Chatham Kelly. Named as "Mrs. William Pascoe" in the 1940 Montana Standard Mary Chatham Kelly obit (one of three surviving sisters of the decedent, all of Butte; the other two are Mrs. Nellie Tracy and Mrs. Agnes Brennan). Named as "Mrs. W. J. Pascoe of Butte" in the 1954 Montana Standard Miss Mary Kelly obit (as an aunt of the decedent). Two independent obits 14 years apart confirm the Pascoe-Chatham in-law tie. POSSIBLY the same person as Alderman Pascoe of the Butte City Council (1894 mayor-opposes-riot-bills clipping). Not yet confirmed — Alderman Pascoe's first name is not given in the 1894 transcription, and the surname is common in Butte's Cornish-mining cohort. Several other Pascoes appear in the archive in distinct roles: George Pascoe (probate-court administrator, 1889 St Patrick's Day same- page filler); Rev. Thomas Pascoe (Methodist preacher, 1909-1911 church notices); Arthur Pascoe (Lion Tamers hockey captain, 1923 Avoca tournament — generation later, plausibly William's son). Two-records rule: each is held as a separate identity until evidence consolidates. User-flagged 2026-05-27 as a person of interest: "Pascoe was married, I think, to a Kelly or a Murphy in my family tree." The Chatham-Kelly link via Mary Chatham Kelly's sister places him one degree removed from the Murphy household via the Kelly side. Additional family records to follow from the user's inbox.
