# Couples Exchange Vows In Valley Church Rites ## Misses Schueller And Lanman Choose White Bridal Gowns Jo Ann Schueller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Schueller of Sherman Oaks, was married to John J. Cooke at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Resida. Nuptial mass was by Rev. Leo J. Lawler, uncle of the bridegroom who flew from Columbus, Ohio, to perform the ceremony. The bride chose as her attendants Charlotte Schueller, her sister, as maid of honor; Pat Cooke, sister of the bridegroom, and Nancy Bee Miller as bridesmaids and Susie Schueller flower girl. Ronald Brown was best man and John De Franco ushers, and Frank and John Schueller and Jim Murphy, the bride's uncles, honorary ushers. The bride wore a gown of Chantilly lace over satin with a sequined tiara and fingertip veil. She carried white camellias corsaged with white orchids. Her attendants were attired in pastel colors. Four generations of the bride's maternal family and three of her paternal family were in attendance at the wedding. A reception at the Glen-Aire Country Club was attended by 200 guests. After a short honeymoon to Catalina Island the newlyweds traveled to Columbus, Ohio, home of the bridegroom, where they will reside. Powell, Peggy House, Joy Dove, and Patricia Simpson, bridesmaids. Glen Simpson Jr., brother of the bridegroom, was best man and James Bartain, Louis Bowerman, Richard Cox, and Ernest Bitner ushers. Both young people will resume their studies at Art Center School in Los Angeles following a honeymoon trip to Northern California. ## Nancy Dean Lanman Weds In Church Rites Nancy Dean Lanman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Lanman of Burbank, and Gerry LaGrange Simpson, son of Mr. and Mrs. V. Simpson of Long Beach, were married at St. David's Episcopal Church in North Hollywood. The bride wore a white nylon gown over taffeta gown with a finger tip veil. Her attendants were Lois Ann Bitner, her sister, as matron of honor, and Barbara ## PATRICIA ANN LONG TO ANNOUNCE TROTH Announcing their engagement today during an informal party are Patricia Ann Long and Charles Richard Colsan. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. G. Long, the bride-elect is a Van Nuys High School graduate. Her future husband, also a graduate of Van Nuys High School, recently was discharged from the U.S. Navy. No date has been set for the wedding. This auxiliary will hold a card and canasta party on Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Sol Mannis. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Drietger of Sunland will give a benefit card party at their home Saturday. On June 7 Mr. and Mrs. Sol Hess will host the regular board meeting, and Tanis Field, organizer of the auxiliary will entertain on the evening of June 10. ## Anniversaries Feted By Valley Socialites Among recent cocktail celebration at Bob Hall's Wild Goose restaurant in Sherman Oaks were Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Trau, Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Bush of Encino celebrating their 22nd wedding anniversary, Col. and Mrs. V. R. Latimore of San Fernando, Mr. and Mrs. Harold R. Nye, Mr. and Mrs. R. Bush, who were entertaining informally at the Van Nuys establishment recently, were also in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis More of North Hollywood, who are marking their 26th wedding anniversary. Guests came from Hollywood and the Valley were present. A recent luncheon at the Casa Ciruega restaurant after a festive Mexican dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Holler of Bywood Way, Burbank, who were celebrating their 4th wedding anniversary, and Mr. and Mrs. John Etter McFrank, also from Hollywood. A p a r t m e n t dwellers, office workers and other "indoor" people, often pick a particular newspaper to provide a wanted "welcome-home" atmosphere in their surroundings. The earliest known use of a newspaper, some 450 years ago, are still in popular use today. Initiation of four new members was a highlight of the meeting of Meru Lodge No. 645, Auxiliary of the Order of the Eastern Star. Trainees held at the American Legion Hall in Van Nuys. Those received into the lodge were Kay Brown, Charlotte Key, Doris Lambrook, and Phyllis McClintock. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jefferson of North Hollywood are marking their 30th wedding anniversary with a dinner party for friends of long standing in the Valley. Among those who attended the dinner given on the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cooke and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fern. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Simpson of North Hollywood entertained with a dinner party at a North Hollywood's Halfpointis Restaurant, honoring Mr. and Mrs. [illegible] Walker who are visiting the Southland from their home in San Francisco. Present for the party were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stewart Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Hale and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stevenson. --- ## Breakfast Meeting Set By Valley B'nai B'rith A breakfast meeting is scheduled Friday for San Fernando Valley B'nai B'rith Past Presidents Club at the home of Mrs. V. Bardolf of Reseda. Mr. Harvey Perlman will be guest of honor. Club members are Misses Morris Wenberg, Marion Jelinek and Dr. Jess Nathan are officers. Max Sherman Gadol, new president of Southern California Conference of B'nai B'rith Women, is guest of honor. Guest speaker is Dr. Jess Nathan. --- ## Overseas Service Group Elects Mrs. Hendrix Mrs. J. D. Hendrix of North Hollywood will be installed president of the Los Angeles County Medical Women's Overseas Service League June 7. She served with the American Red Cross in the India-Burma theater. Others to be installed are Cecelia Knowles, social chairman; Jean Bailey, patient welfare; Alice Geyes, Ethel Luce, Alice Woods and Noemi Baliando, Hours. The monthly party, with prizes will be at the home of a veteran at Brentwood Hospital where Virginia Varnum, and Mrs. Wells, service chairman, in charge. --- ## Mrs. Neithert Heads San Fernando Pallbearine San Fernando Valley Panhellenic will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Edwin H. Taylor, Van Nuys. Assisting Mrs. Taylor will be Mmes. George W. Pursell, Edward B. Lilly Jr., Robert M. Devore and Robert M. Dyer. New officers will be installed during the meeting. They are Mmes. Harold Neithert of Encino, president; Walloth Fry of Sherman Oaks, vice president; Robert E. Van Nuys, recording secretary; James Trimble of Van Nuys, corresponding secretary; and Hal Hlyan of North Hollywood, treasurer. Outgoing President Mrs. Robert E. BUCKLEY* Dear Parents: A letter received from Van Nuys will assure us that there are parents in this area who carefully are careful to supervise their children. This parent has found that there existed in his neighborhood a swimming pool; also, that there was no ordinance requiring such pool to be fenced. As long as there can be no legislation enforced regarding this matter, the public should be aware that there is always danger in an unfenced swimming pool. It certainly would be expedient for parents situated near pools to be fenced, to contact the matter to the City Council of the City of Van Nuys and request such legislation. When there is public pressure, city councils will cooperate. Now that summer is coming, please check your neighborhood for the nearest community pool for protection. One suggestion, as a precautionary measure, would be a six-foot, chain-link fence of galvanized wire running along the top and a gate that can be padlocked. It also may be necessary to have a friendly meeting with the owners of unfenced private pools. It seems to me with the number of swimming pools here in existence, especially in the Valley, it would not be too difficult to ask for a legislation to enforce fencing. Some communities plan to accomplish this year by drowning! Plan for your child to learn to swim this summer. All experts advise that the sooner swimming instruction starts, the better. Everywhere, swimming is marvelous—especially in California! We know that it is not only the best form of relaxation, but it also means safety too. Swimming is easy to learn, for the beginner gains more a child's confidence is gained. It is a real treat for a child to be on his own in the water, and gives the best physical development for the entire co-ordinated body. New court will be instituted in the State of California, the court will be established in North Hollywood and Sun Valley. Mrs. Antoinette Mangini of Burbank was unanimously elected as grand regent. Other new officers are slated to attend an official meeting at the Old Fellows Hall, North Hollywood. New officers: Marion people chosen; Gertrude Goodhart, financial secretary; Dorothy Alfaris, historian; Gertrude Rocha, treasurer; Lois Man, organist; Horia Etcheverry, sentinel; and Yolanda Franklin, instructor. Also Mmes. Janet Stiller, organist; Marie Burke and Rose Vasquez, three-year trustees; Mmes. Anna Tortora and Sadie Sack. The meeting is closed by Mrs. Manila Caprice, state treasurer for the CDA. Highlight of convention was a banquet at the Biltmore than 14,500, there are 113 courts Hotel attended by His Eminence in the State of California. Mrs. James Francis Cardinal McIntyre. ## Mrs. Leach To Attend July National Confab Mrs. Arlene Leach, state chairman of welfare for Catholic Daughters of America as official delegate will attend national convention of CDA in St. Paul, Minn. the week of July 12. A member of Court St. Anthony of Burbank, where she was grand regent for two years and for three years as chairman of trustees, Mrs. Leach also is active in Burbank civic affairs. Report of her two years of activities as state chairman of social welfare was given by Mrs. Leach at the recent State convention at the Statler Hotel. --- ## VALLEY MEDICAL UNIT MAILS OUT SHIP-SHAPE INVITATIONS Invitations in the form of ships will go out to 600 members of the Valley Branch of the Women's Auxiliary to the Los Angeles County Medical Association, scheduled on June 5. Mrs. Harry Grimsal is taking reservations. ## 'PARISIAN HOLIDAY' D'Accordette Club To Model Fashions The D'Accordette Heston Club of senior citizens will stage a "Parisian Holiday" fashion show next Saturday afternoon, with setting arranged around the pool of Mrs. William F. Whinney. [...] Montgomery and Clarence Nash, the voice of Donald Duck, and other prizes will also be included in the program. The French theme will be carried out by the use of flower carts, Eifeltower backdrops, and other decorations, including a 20-foot Eiffel Tower and a Champs Elysees where the refreshments will be served. Highlighted presentations will be a large fashion book and guests will create their entrance. Models and hostesses for the event are Betty Jo Jolster, Marylin Alden, Helen and Ralph Dyer, Roberta Edelstein, Charlotte Knapp, Dorothy Emmo, Pauline Molders, Virginia Marvell, Marilyn Porter, Thelma Raymond, Norma Varnum, Suznne Valorie, and Sue Whinney.
