MUSICAL SERVICES AT VARIOUS CHURCHES ARE ESPECIALLY GOOD—CLERGYMEN DELIVER SPECIAL EASTER SERMONS—SUNDAY SCHOOLS PART IN CELEBRATION. The observance of Easter was general in the Christian churches of Butte yesterday and the services were both impressive and beautiful. It was a day for the observance of the day and special programs were prepared for the various houses of worship. The interior of all the churches visited were tastefully decorated with tastefully arranged potted plants and cut flowers. Outside the weather was in full harmony with the season and for Butte was decidedly uninviting. The day opened cold and bleak and throughout the morning and part of the afternoon a light snow fell. When it was announced the services took note of this and the congregations probably being no less than mother's holiday. Despite the inclemency of the weather, many Easter hats were seen, for Butte belles few moments will permit elements and fared forth to church attired in their springtime best, some of the costumes being artistic works of Easter art. ### At Monah View. At the Mountain View Methodist church Rev. Edward Ladd Mills, district superintendent, filled the pulpit for the pastor, Rev. C. H. Spratt. The Easter program of the Sunday school consisting of 11:30 included a program of songs, recitations and music, all of an Easter nature, and both the morning and evening services were attended by the pastor, Mr. Mills rendered several special numbers. The theme, the Fact, the Philosophy and the Fruits of the resurrection at the morning service. ### At the Catholic Churches. Solemn high mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's church at 11:30 o'clock. Appropriate Easter music was rendered. Numbers were rendered by an augmented choir. At Sacred Heart church, Stearn's avenue, solemn high mass was held under the conductorship of Rev. Father Saecker, assisted by Rev. Fathers Cronan and Doonan. Songs were rendered by pupils of Miss Lollobinder and a number of special musical numbers were rendered. ### St. Lawrence Church. Solemn high mass was celebrated at St. Lawrence church at 11 o'clock Sunday. Miss Kathryn Rosen acted as organist, and directed the following choir program of the service: Soloists high mass at 11:00 a. m. "Vidi Aquam" (garden chant); "Kyrie" and "Gloria," Mr. [illegible], In B flat, "Credo" (Nelson); "Offertory," soprano solo, "Regina Caeli" (Tosti); H. Neuman, tenor solo; "Sanctus" (Nelson) with "Benedictus," "Salve Regina," tenor solo (Farrat); soloists of the high mass: Soprano, Miss Alin; Miss A. Veenculan; tenor, F. Kleckner; bass, L. Kneale Miner and [illegible] cortese, Kathryn Rosen. ### Rev. F. A. Agar at First Baptist. Rev. F. A. Agar, who has been conducting special revival services at the First church for the past two weeks, preached, both morning and evening services, at the First Baptist church. Note were rendered by Mr. Veenculan and Mr. Kitts and the choir under the direction of Miss Ruth Brockway. Mr. Agar in his sermons of the day rendered several special numbers. ### Immanuel Presbyterian. The Easter sermon at the Immanuel Presbyterian church was given in the morning, at 11:00 o'clock, by the pastor, Dr. [illegible]. Special musical selections by members of the Sunday school were also directed by the choir, Dr. H. Gwynne. ### Unity Methodist Church. There was a special service at Unity Methodist Episcopal church Sunday in the morning. There was no night service and there was no the regular special sermon by the pastor. ### First Presbyterian Church. Rev. J. Gregory preached the Easter sermon at the morning service at the First Presbyterian church on West Granite street. Music was rendered by Mrs. Hubert and Marvin Jenkins. A violin solo by the pastor's children was baptized. In the morning Miss Gertrude Peters played a violin solo and also selections on the piano. In the evening service Mr. James Holman rendered several special [numbers]. ### St. John's Episcopal Church. The musical program at St. John's Episcopal church was especially elaborate, and the services in that church were solemn for the day and under the leader-ship of Choir Director Francis T. Lester the choir rendered many beautiful selections. The morning sermon was by Rev. C. Blackiston, the pastor, preached service in the morning. ### Grace M. E. Church. At Grace Methodist Episcopal church Rev. James Taylor delivered the Easter sermon. A Sunday school concert was under the direction of the Sunday school and an enjoyable program was rendered. ### South Butte Presbyterian. Easter was celebrated at the South Butte Presbyterian church by the communion of the Lord's Supper and the reception of the members of the service in the morning. Bible school was held at noon and in the evening there was special Easter exercises conducted by the [illegible]. ### Shortridge Memorial Church. Rev. Walter M. Jordan preached the Easter sermon at the morning service at the Shortridge Memorial church. There was special Easter day service held under the leadership of Prof. R. M. Bowman. The chorus of the school was under the direction of Prof. [illegible]. ### At Wesley Chapel. At Wesley chapel the morning service consisted of the services of the church and a sermon by the pastor, Rev. John Hoskins. The young people gave an enjoyable program in the evening. ### First Unitarian. The Easter service at the First Unitarian church was held in the evening where Rev. Lewis J. Duncan, the pastor, preached an Easter sermon on "The Historical Significance of the Idea of the Resurrection Through the Christian Ages." There were special musical numbers. ### Trinity M. E. Church. At Trinity Methodist Episcopal church the Easter service was held during the morning. The prayer meeting was as usual. The usual services with a special Easter sermon by the pastor, Rev. A. A. [illegible]. The Sunday school had a special concert by the Sunday school, consisting of recitations, songs, motion songs, anthems and choruses. ### At the Welsh Church. Easter service at the Welsh church was held last night. A long Easter program was rendered by the choir and Sunday school. A special solo by Mr. E. H. Williams preceded the Easter sermon. ### Other Services. Special services were held yesterday at the Bethel Baptist, Swedish Baptist, Band of Hope Mission, Swedish Lutheran and other churches. The Welsh Baptist church also held special services. The Christian Scientists held special services in the Jewish synagogue both morning and evening. The Salvation Army services in Butte have been satisfactorily filled free. --- ## SPECULATOR CLUB EASTER BALL The prizes were tonight at the New Boston hall, at the Speculator Club Easter ball. The program was specially arranged. An orchestra will furnish the music. A good supper will be served. The presiding officers of the club are: Hugh Donar, president; Ed. O. Denver, April 11—Via New York-to-Europe, April 7. The Denver orchestra left Colo., today and will remain there until to-morrow. The conductor will proceed to Basel to hold one of his final rehearsals. The car will be accompanied by a delegation of Denver friends. **M. W. A. U. met Friday at the residence of the President, Mrs. William Lutey, 413 West Mercury street, and plans for the summer work were discussed and a goodly amount of good literature distributed to various homes in the vicinity. Eight members were received. Mrs. Currah gave a very interesting address, illustrating by the exhibition of a prohibition map. Plans for a summer contest are to be made at the next meeting.
