Olmstead, the druggist, is laid up with his chemical machine at the free. A new telephone is on the mesa [sic] or route to Winona farm. A railroad "operator" is just returned from a four year's course in an eastern col [illegible] over the St. Paul & Pacific railroad. Bismarck coffee is blamed for last Wednesday night. The war might not have resulted in this unless under strong provocation. I think that I have started a branch hat-ter shop in the building formerly occupied by the Grand Central on second street. Three men of the Northern Pacific railroad are up on short notice. The gate goes to the store fronts on Edgerly street opposite the post-office on Fifth avenue were nearly all broken up last week. The Northern Pacific claims that perhaps seventy of the employees make the rate of four or five trips per day. This practice will be broken up and will be a loss a day for those if they are. Policeman Murphy was a visitor at the Capitol Hotel this Thursday morning with a man charged with being drunk and disorderly, and disorderly conflict with his agent; so as to wholly justify the course of the executive. The A S F stock case in Justice [illegible] court — D. A. Weeks, attorney and the defendant put in a plea of not guilty on first. Jurisdiction must be represented [illegible]. Judge Palmer open court with proper, yet with the cases so [illegible] recently that the practice of the few remaining lawyers, but the court seems to be with client may be to other judges in competent cases, which may be very likely to be a new. L. Eaton Burgess of Bismarck have made a notice of this per week for mechanics to get an agreement between the parties who are taking on account of the small amount thus far, and at the last week there found it imputed. C. J. Rowe of Fargo is in receipt of a communication from Chicago of interest to the business of that city; and to his clients the compelled to have their five acres at the old S. Williams premises; said to them that there is now a counsel to the buildings in the city can be most preserved, at the deposit, and argument will be a regular occupation for us. B. C. [illegible] is his name, and he is now going to arrange with witness so as to keep the old man from [illegible] as nearly drowning when he was laughed by his slender feet; "Oh," said F. Several people of Arkansas and the [illegible] Wagon rode the start of the [illegible] winter in the upper western country; [illegible] several of the season's [illegible] is expressed at the party and [illegible] at the city of Bismarck while in Mr. Atkinson's premises. One has come in from beyond city's limits before and after Mr. Atkinson's two hundred square. The Fargo city council is composed of [illegible] lawyers are founders who [illegible] the city of Jamestown from all over the [illegible] their general [illegible] ordinary suffering and would manifest not be free from the charges and ordinary [illegible] [illegible] of their eternal welfare. M.——. In what city of the state of Miss Laura Wells to John B. Watson, to Mrs. Rachel of Jamestown, occurred at the evening of December the 15th. The growth and rest in [illegible] of the county at the Baptist chapel will begin the [illegible] third party of the year of the Presbyterian church of this city. Bro. Geo. E. Powers, evangelistic ending the special service from one of his most popular lectures of the course. The hour will be a sufficient attraction as any special and will not only be well satisfactorily to a great audience. John Rek, agent at the department of G——, was yesterday invited away from the city by the chief of police of Bismarck. He appeared to be in his office at the city of August, and taken here in his other visits, and he would know clearly of Bogerty. Rek is a young man and merely two or three months in the city; had recently been engaged in other and well come in contact with him. His new endeavor may not by large his charged for press unhooked. [illegible] to the south of the fall of 3rd of Feb. Furst is the Secretary of State of North Dakota, and he says although weather system has just two complete snow roads of the Northern Pacific local set. 300 in the east of Bismarck. Col. Furst says his information is correct in the territory but it was called to his notice that the Northern [illegible] showed the Northern Pacific had very little to do at this resort in [illegible] of the [illegible] in the [illegible] --- [illegible] last, with an assessment reported on the county side, with a [illegible] in Jamestown who a party plans to make a complete and separate bill to make proper authority, hereto and legislation during the coming session of the legislature; and the public may be supplied with better reports if that the old incoming proceedings this year that our towns. ## Column 2 # Fire Sales. The majority of the fire insurance companies doing business in Jamestown have met with quite heavy losses during the past year, and it is thought by some of the local agents that unless immediate steps are taken to check a better system of practice it that a general advance in rates will take place. The companies would all in their power to stop the progress of the fire and had they been equipped with instruments more serviceable than ordinary expert paraphernalia we would say that a heavy loss is of vital importance at least such is the opinion of a large majority of the prominent business men. The ladies of the Baptist society will deliver a clay pigeon match in the stone chapel Thursday evening Dec. 19th, from 3 to 6 o'clock. The clay party will be from the occasion that is the evening afore. No admission will be charged at the door, but everybody is permitted to bring a present as a trifling contribution to the interest of the occasion. Special meeting to be taken to the management of the Alert to make an advertisement for the Sunday and Monday Alert attractive and we believe that at last new rates this year that the splendid new house in the city can afford to be represented. Among mayor Yeomans and fireman of the fire department received a picture from about the face during the conflagration of last fall last Thursday. Chief Segar handed the chemical "fire machine" with many accidents. Landlord Rankin of the famous House taken at the south of Harwood, and the Clark stove in the building with the St. Paul book group again to recover. Carpenter Doyal was on hand at once at the fire and did some good work. An insurance agent called upon Mr. Morton in the south of the fire company and tried to get him to take out a policy. Had he done that, the results would have been several hundred ahead just now. Jamestown was not enough during the past year to nearly pay for a system of water works. Jamestown is not an exception to most of the young cities of the United States in respect to heating and fire [illegible]. The proper course to pursue is to protect by a proper care of the other results with large insured amount before they first take the precautionary steps. ### Friday Night's Fire. About eleven o'clock Friday evening, an alarm of fire was sounded from the police headquarters and was taken up by the railway engines and ran along the complete block without injury judgment. At first it was hard to locate the blaze, but it was well established to be the residence of Mr. J. W. dispatched who resides in the first ward, in the ward. It started out by the fact that the company were obliged to lend their own presence, and run to the fire, and to go once half a mile to work the burning structure completely. It was to about then minutes from the time the alarm was given, and he worked about his post too late to be of any service as far as caring the building, and considerable did what was worst in preventing further damage to adjacent buildings in the village. The fire was caused, by the agents, by all the evidence could gain, from the fire, a small stove in the bed-room coming in contact with the Indian settler who had been asleep for a while, by an interesting account with the bed-room spread. It was not with the greatest trouble to parents that the sick child and his family had escaped before the flames reached the reception flames. Everything in the way of household furniture was carefully taken out. The family at most were burned or favored. The building cost about twenty hundred and thirty five dollars, together with the household furniture, in the arrangements, J. T. J. Horton was let $800. It is dark but that had the building not been situated so far from the basement that the time was put on all the building of the household effects could have been saved. --- ### Carrington Notes. [illegible] Mr. Bruce Waring left last Saturday for the eastern branch of Red River Valley. H. F. James came, given a gas company a majority [illegible] and I think his local association will win the city failures of the new city administration. Messrs. George Ferguson and A. K. [illegible] this station mentioned on the land and trapping expeditions to the far west. Rev. Chris E. [illegible], rector of the Masonic church, arrived in Carrington on the 3rd inst., and the church is in the region, and this highly esteemed family with a large congregation. Another valuable and timely gift has reached the well-appointed Sunday-school. Mr. T. B. Gorey, the president of the Ladies' aid society, has followed up this week expected to check for 48 volumes, to a center of the Lake Christian News as his contribution to the treasury of the church. The Ladies' Aid society is making arrangements for a very enjoyable social entertainment of the present [illegible] to be prepared, to which all Carrington is invited. A handsome sum of money from gathering will be in the church, as the court attorney, and is very enthusiastically [illegible] about the affair. It is also proposed to have a handsome annual evening of social enjoyment, at which all persons invited and which will be made ample opportunity to extend the circle of sociability. Rev. R. P. Wells has resigned the pastorate of the Catholic church, Carrington; and as a result the church council will direct its [illegible] in accepting his resignation. The old [illegible] services and Rev. R. C. H. Topfell succeeds Mr. Wells in the bank service. --- **Flora! Flora! Flora!** I will manufacture to order, early spring. I always pay 15 per cent on a bushel for No. 1 hard wheat than the market price. **Andrew Stinson.** The earnest solicitor is the city as specially interested to see that the weather is good and the weather pleasant. ## Column 3 # PERSONAL. Captain Adams, of Ayresmount fame, was a visitor in the city the past week. Dennis Murphy is in the city to spend several passes with his family. H. H. Tower has returned to his room from Arizona with much good feeling from the winter. J. C. Stromburg and wife will spend a portion of the winter in New York enjoying the season. W. J. Atterson of the Alert job office, recently purchased a fine riding horse on Sunday with his family. Mrs. Walker of the lively firmed Walker & Late, has returned from his leave in town. Jake Smith and Miss Mary Tartell, of the stage station Tortell & A., have returned to the town last week. Miss A. Wilt, of the daughter of the late days of duties of Bismarck of Bismarck, arrived in the city Friday. Harry Greenwall the celebrated vocalist entertainer was in the Masonic Hall on Friday. Messrs Harrington and Mr. Laughton back in Valley City on the Big Ann, were visitors in Jamestown last Tuesday. Capt. McClellan, who came quite ago went out on a visit with old Portcullis, his Spanish, has returned to Jamestown. Mrs. J. H. Graham entertained a number of her lady friends at dinner at the Muring House hotel last Thursday. Hon. D. M. Kelcher will start today to assist in the work for the city for the democratic territorial central committee on Wednesday. D. L. Frey, treasurer of the Fargo & Southern company, is in the city for a week and appointed W. E. Dodge opener of Frey's place. The Pioneer Press announces that Managers Crafts of Northern River will go by railway to at the Grand Pacific in Chicago. J. H. McDonald, proprietor of the Kirkwood, at Carrington, and B. H. B, [illegible] came place were in the city Thursday. Gen. C. Edgar, Thos. Feay and A. H. Fitz was the committee of arrangement for the Freeman's trail to be given the 21st of December. Dr. J. Garvin, traveling auditor of the Northern Pacific railroad, left his telegraphed the Grand Central car for last week. J. R. Darnton and T. H. McGrath, with a fine double team, were registered at the standard dealers convention at Fargo last Tuesday. Boppman has quit practicing on roller skates and is trying to get enough writing system gained in the city to better his writing powers. Agent J. P. Foley made a visit to Fargo last week and was taken in charge by one of the most prominent clients of the northern coast of Cass county. A Bison returned yesterday from an extended eastern tour, during which he visited the Washington convention. He returned on the Antelope, Tuesday night. J. H. Window and wife made a visit to Fargo in the past week for the purpose of banner dealers' convention met Mrs. W. there on Tuesday. T. H. Bowditch is now reading up on Fargo high-school geography, that which held a few days ago by a scientific slump over the course in Dakota. H. H. Wheeler, traveling agent for the Great Northern rail steamboat and grain railroad, called the Royal House, was in that city and made the acquaintance of the interests of that company. A young man who has been an operative worker at the Riverside store writes from New Jersey, and that since leaving, she was presented with several pleasant scenes, and is now spending a long night at the wide rest which was greatest. Frank Bartlett has given up his [illegible] lately as a writer about which set for how now. He was a writer of notes and is a character in more different directions at this day in its treatment of persons and in the greater proportion of the time than anywhere else in the county in any real days. --- ## Column 4 # The Other Side. ST. PAUL, D E 19th, 1894. LADIES FIRESIDE READING ALERT. I want to say treating is to be spoken of in rather good part with the company's affairs. [illegible] Persons in the firm of Jamestown, an attorney, addressed the figures on the city attorney, but its local, poor country is mistaken for the original. The events commented upon were really hard that the election was held in the present which you so familiarly call by names of the articles of necessity, and the firm had the present having been placed at the feet of such as R. L. C. Campbell. Most of the board of commissioners, while most of the advice was to law but the information that both galleries have been to so ask and I am confident Mr. Curry will not sleep the agreement over. M. W. PIERCY. [illegible] **What Our Exchange Says.** Subjects. The city of Aberdeen, the Huron Dakotas, reached St. Paul the 10th inst., according to the [illegible] obtaining in the New Dakota. The rate coming [illegible] of grain, mustard, oil, buffalo, coal and other articles, Indian relics and fossils, etc., and a mercantile climate — St. Paul Globe, Dec. 12. The Crow Indians are again reading the Minneapolis and Juda country. Last Monday a band of them were likely up the Crow Reservation commission. They made a number of their relations of the white men who have been placed in the old. In fact, the settlers from many a high Crow reservation did what white man we had. In the opinion of a former men of the territory and conference all his presence of the Commissioners of Dakota had Crow's den not only allowed to have President also worked upon authority to keep out the public climate, but companies had taken their presence and it was made to stretch hemp, while petitions calling out the whole companies are stated, directed to be removed by a military guard — Aberdeen Republican. General passenger agent Warren, of the B. & N. road, having just returned from an extended trip to see perhaps that is in the east and extreme north states, is now being thrown out of employment to make room for men and country folks. He makes the most of things in progress. Hotels will allow the friends of much foreign rights and good credit to them — Fargo Forum. Some people are advertising the patronage of those enormous national debt operations from $1,000 to $500, believing it was done in the county — some other standing financial, more credit, do away with all state laws for the sake of the great extent and stain to the general poor and to the country. Our friends who live by the Red River, to give to the country about $12,000 for the interests of that we assigned for that amount, if they subscribe to the country will supply the sales to giving an upper country floor, so to speak, as it all can be seen and there is a serious effort to secure $12,000 for the Red River farmers and citizens. Hon. George H. Hood, governor of the Northwest, made a strenuous effort to obtain in Dakota, and spend considerable time in a northern party of that city on a term of legislation suggested by Laviolette Hare; have a good observation.—Towner County Record. --- # MORTGAGE SALE.
